What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy helps to restore movement and function when someone is affected by acute or chronic injury, illness or disability, through movement, exercise, manual therapy, education and advice.
Physiotherapy is a science based profession and takes a holistic approach to health and wellbeing. This includes the patients’ general lifestyle. At the core is the patients’ involvement in their own care through education, awareness, empowerment and participation in their treatment. (CSP 2013)
What can we treat?
We will assess and treat any neuromusculoskeletal problem. We are HCPC and CSP registered. All patients attending for a Physiotherapy assessment will need an initial 45 minute appointment, which will include
a full assessment, discussion of the treatment options
and a treatment plan agreed. Review appointments will be 30mins but can be longer if required.
Some of the most common musculoskeletal problems that we treat are; lower back pain, neck pain, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel, De Quervain's, OA hip and knee, calf and hamstring strains, achilles tendinopathy & plantar fasciitis.

Joint Mobilizations aim to; restore movement within the affected joint, promote healing by increasing circulation to the area and ease pain by improving ROM and activating the nervous system.
Soft tissue techniques such as Swedish Massage, Deep Friction Massage or Specific Soft Tissue Mobilization Massage aim to reduce muscle tension, break down scar tissue adhesions, ease pain, relax the client & promote circulation to the area to aid the removal of toxins and influx of nutrients.
Taping
can be used to either offload or support an area, and can provide feedback to
the surrounding tissues and joints to improve control. It can also assist with reducing
swelling in acute injuries. We offer kinesio taping which is great for sports injuries and rehab.
Exercise has a major role in injury prevention and healing. Physiotherapy focuses a lot on the use of exercise to improve symptoms and maintain improvements long term to enable the patient to self manage.
Acupuncture can be used as an adjunct to manual treatments & exercises as it helps to reduce pain in patients who perhaps could not tolerate other techniques due to high pain levels. Acupuncture stimulates the nerves, which helps to block pain; it creates an energy flow to re-balance the body and improves circulation, which enhances the healing process.
Often it is a combination of the above treatment techniques that help to resolve MSK problems.
